Thanksgiving Dinner for CityU supporters

A Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by the Community Relations Committee (CRC) under the Council of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 16 November gave thanks to CityU’s donors and supporters, sharing with them the University’s recent achievements and future development.
Donors, friends of the University, Council members, CityU senior management, alumni and students made up the 160 guests at the Dinner.

After thanking guests for their support and contributions to the University, Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, reported on the University’s new strategic initiatives, including a large-scale student funding programme for overseas exchanges and internships plus the establishment of the School of Veterinary Medicine.

“In our strategic plan, the central theme is people and the most important of all is the students,” Professor Kuo said. “We will devote HK$50 million to send students on international exchanges. So far, we have raised more than half that amount. International experience will help our students become more mature, have a broader vision, and give back to society.”

Professor Kuo also introduced the School of Veterinary Medicine, explaining that it would be set up in collaboration with Cornell University and set a high standard for public health and food safety. It would also address the problems created by the interconnectedness of humans and animals.

“We want the University to be known for two things: professional education and research,” Professor Kuo said.

CRC Chairman Dr Joseph Lee Chung-tak said both the Fundraising Taskforce and the Public Relations Taskforce under the CRC would do more to build the CityU brand into an internationally focused institution that Hong Kong can be proud of.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of awards and souvenirs by Professor Kuo to members of the Alumni Giving Club (AGC) and Staff Giving Club (SGC). Recipients are:
