A homecoming party on 13 January attended by Professor Way Kuo, President of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and CityU’s senior management and faculty celebrated the successful completion of the expedition to Antarctica.

The 23 participating undergraduates had used the three-week-long trip to conduct experiments and collect environmental data that would be used to create original artwork.

Their aim is to help raise awareness about the importance of protecting our fragile environment.

The team began the 21-day Antarctica expedition on 14 December 2013, visiting Ushuaia in Argentina and exploring the islands and harbours of Antarctica by speedboat and research ship. They divided into groups, collected ice and water samples and recorded information about lichens and wind speed in frosty weather.

They also used an infra-red camera to film Adele penguins and video the landscape of Antarctica by a drone.
