Taiwanese delegation explores CityU collaborations

A 10-member delegation from the University System of Taiwan (UST) explored possible collaborations with City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and toured its facilities during a visit on 27 February.

Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, and other senior management members briefed the Taiwanese delegation, which was led by Professor Ovid J L Tzeng, Chancellor of UST, on CityU’s recent achievements and future development.

During the tour, the delegation visited the “Pure Land: Inside the Mogao Grottoes at Dunhuang” exhibition at the School of Creative Media. In addition, delegates watched documentaries produced by students and experienced the digital media facilities operated by students in the 3D-TV Virtual Studio and the Digital Newsroom, among others, in the studios of the Department of Media and Communication in CityU’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

The tour ended in the facilities for research on millimeter-wave and terahertz technologies in the State Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves in Academic 3.

The visitors complimented CityU’s state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities and the strong team of outstanding academics.  

Ms Sophia Ma Hsiang-ping, the Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education in Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, said the combination of technology, the arts and the humanities in the “Pure Land” exhibition was “absolutely wonderful”.

Representatives from Delta Electronics were drawn to the presentations at the State Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves, praising the achievements of the faculty and students in the Department of Electronic Engineering.    

Other delegation members included Dr Daisy Hung Lan, Director and Chair Professor, Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, National Central University, Taiwan; Ms Diane Ying, Chairman, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Common Wealth Magazine Group; Ms Wu Yin-Chuen, Managing Editor, Common Wealth Magazine; and Ms Amelia Cheng, CEO, Common Wealth Magazine Group.

The delegates from Delta Electronics included Mr Bruce Cheng, Founder and Honorary Chairman; Ms Guo Shan-Shan, Chief Brand Officer; Mr Jesse Chou, Spokesperson and Assistant Vice-President, Corporate Communications; and Ms Rose Lee, Assistant Programmer, MEG Lab, Academia Sinica.
