City University of Hong Kong (CityU) men’s and women’s sports teams have pulled off another triumphant season.

CityU won the men’s overall championship and the women’s overall 1st runner-up in the 2014-2015 annual intervarsity sports competitions organised by The University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China (USFHK).

For the second year running, Grace Lau Mo-sheung, a Year 3 student in the School of Creative Media who is ranked 20th in the world in female individual Karate Kata, was named USFHK Sportswoman of the Year.

Overall CityU won the championship in 12 events, and took home seven 1st runners-up positions and 11 third-placed positions at the USFHK intervarsity prize presentation ceremony held on 19 April.

Moreover, 13 CityU athletes were named Most Valuable Player in their respective events, underlining the overall CityU sporting strength.

Grace was particularly excited at winning Sportswoman of the Year again, and she thanked CityU for enabling student athletes to balance excellence in sports and studies.

“All the candidates who qualified for this year’s top awards are superb athletes, with some of them even winning top prizes in the Asian Games. And so I feel really excited to receive this honour again,” she said.

Grace plans to become a full-time athlete after she graduates this year, and hopes to scale new heights in the Karate Kata event in the upcoming Asian Games.

Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs), Dr Raymond Chan Kwok-hong, Dean of Students, and Dr Wong Chi-tim, Director of Student Development Services, showed their staunch support for the students’ outstanding achievements by attending the prize presentation ceremony.
