CityU receives donation from Dr Koo Ming-kown

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has received HK$5 million donation from Dr Koo Ming-kown, founder of the Nam Tai Group and Honorary Graduate of CityU, to support the University’s strategic initiatives.
Dr Koo is well-known for his entrepreneurial success. He is currently the Executive Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of Nam Tai Group, a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
He is also a philanthropist dedicated to the public good. His donations and sponsorship go to all parts of the world, covering areas and activities such as education, medicine, aid for the poor and disaster relief.
Dr Koo is closely associated with CityU. In addition to being the recipient of an Honorary Doctor in Social Science award in 2013, he is the Honorary President of the City University of Hong Kong Foundation.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to CityU, a young and rapidly growing institution devoted to becoming a leading global university. I am deeply impressed by CityU’s excellence in research and professional education, as well as its dedication to nurturing outstanding graduates,” said Dr Koo.
“I hope my donation will contribute to the development of the University, which in turn will benefit the Hong Kong community,” he said.
Professor Way Kuo, University President, thanked Dr Koo on behalf of the University for his generosity and his dedicated contributions to CityU and education.
“Dr Koo’s donation is a huge encouragement to the CityU community. It provides us with the impetus to work even harder to pursue research designed to benefit society, establish a culture of innovation and discovery, and nurture the talents of our students,” he said.
