- Student Life
Professor Way Kuo, President of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), warmly welcomed this year’s non-local students to the big CityU family and encouraged them to have a fruitful campus life.
A total of 2,099 non-local students from 59 countries and regions came to study at CityU this year. During the greeting sessions arranged by the Global Services Office, Professor Kuo chatted with students from the mainland, Taiwan and overseas countries and helped them to know more about the University.
Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs), Dr Ron Kwok Chi-wai, Dean of Students, and Dr David Cheng Xing, Associate Vice-President (Global Services), also attended the sessions and answered questions.
Professor Kuo encouraged students while at CityU to make more friends and learn Cantonese and Chinese writing, which would be invaluable to life in Hong Kong and beyond.
Students at the event were eager to know more. In reply to one participant who asked how to develop innovative ideas into business opportunities while at CityU, Professor Kuo said that the University actively promoted knowledge transfer.
Many student projects had benefited from the support provided by CityU and had developed into examples of successful entrepreneurship, he said.
Other questions focused on student development, physical and mental health, hostel arrangements, and adjustment to university life.
