Strategic agreement signed with Sichuan

A new strategic agreement between City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and the People’s Government of Sichuan Province will strengthen cooperation in areas such as strategic consultation, the establishment of a platform for industry-university research collaboration, advancing technology innovation and upgrading industry, international technology transfer, as well as academic and talent exchange.

The agreement was signed on 11 December by Professor Lu Jian, Vice-President (Research and Technology), CityU, and Ms Zheng Li, Director General, Department of Hong Kong & Macao Affairs, Sichuan Provincial People’s Government. Professor Way Kuo, President of CityU, and Mr Huang Jianfa, Minister of the Organisation Department of the Communist Party of China Sichuan Provincial Committee, witnessed the signing ceremony.

Under the agreement, the two parties will set up a think tank comprising overseas experts for Sichuan Province; support the development of the CityU Chengdu Research Institute; establish relevant organisations for the international transfer of technology; establish bases for nurturing talent and student internships; provide training for outstanding government officials, entrepreneurs and technical experts selected by the provincial government at CityU; and build an international platform for innovation and entrepreneurship.

In addition to signing the agreement, the Sichuan delegation and CityU’s representatives visited a Sichuan-related photo exhibition that the delegates had brought with them to Hong Kong and discussed the latest developments within the province.
