The implementation of efficient climate policies requires an equal sharing of the burden in the international context, according to Professor Lucas Bretschger, Full Professor of Economics/ Resource Economics at ETH Zurich in the latest installment of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) Distinguished Lecture Series on 7 March.

In his lecture, titled “Efficiency and Equity Requirements of International Climate Policy”, Professor Bretschger said political decisions should be induced in favour of sustainability in order to avoid inequitable treatment of different generations. As for climate policies, polluting countries have to carry a substantial burden.

Professor Bretschger is Past-President of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. He is a member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences, a Research Associate at the University of Oxford and a Professor at the University of Zurich.
