The Employers’ Luncheon on 15 March organised by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) helped to raise the awareness among major local employers about CityU’s educational philosophy and showcased students’ talents and their outstanding achievements.

More than 500 participants attended the Luncheon, including over 300 employers from about 170 companies in a range of industries, plus 200 faculty members and students.

Mr Lester Garson Huang, Chairman of the CityU Council, extended a warm welcome to all guests, saying the research projects at this year’s luncheon exemplified the diversified talents of CityU students.

He added that, according to the Global University Employability Survey in 2017, CityU graduates’ employability was ranked 134th globally, while QS placed CityU in the Top 130 in terms of employability.

Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs), introduced the keynote speaker, Mr Lau Ming-wai, CityU Council member and Chairman of Chinese Estates Holdings Limited.

Mr Lau delivered a talk with the theme “Connect Employers with Young People” in which he shared the importance of building and maintaining good connections between corporations and their young and resourceful employees.

To connect with young people, he said, employers must understand what young people want, like and fear. The key to understanding each other better was “listening”, he said.

Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, said CityU actively encouraged students to develop a global vision for enhancing creative thinking and competitiveness. “Moreover, CityU students are provided with numerous opportunities to participate in overseas learning activities in order to gain global exposure from other countries and to inspire innovative thinking,” he said.
