CityU names a lecture theatre after alumnus Peter Ho Ka-nam

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) named Lecture Theatre 10 after Mr Peter Ho Ka-nam, Managing Director of Techworld Industries Limited and an alumnus of CityU, at a ceremony today (28 November) in appreciation of his contribution to the University.

Mr Ho is a true believer in continuous education, being a recent graduate of CityU’s MSc Engineering Management and is currently studying for a Doctorate. He understands that knowledge is power and that our future lies in educating the next generation. As such, Mr Ho is a role model for his staff. Being an appreciative alumnus, he encourages and supports his staff to pursue further education at CityU. Mr Ho has collaborated with CityU to develop in-house training programmes and weekly lecture series for his staff in Hong Kong and Dongguan.

As an outstanding entrepreneur and alumnus of CityU, Mr Ho has made significant contributions to the University and manufacturing/engineering industry. He has helped CityU establish close relationships with the business and industrial sectors by serving as Patron of the CityU Business and Industrial Club (CUBIC) and the Chairman of CUBIC’s Consumer Electronic Group. Mr Ho has made several generous donations to the University in support of the Industrial Attachment Scheme, student scholarships and the development of the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies.

Speaking at the Peter Ho Lecture Theatre naming ceremony, Professor Richard Ho Yan-ki, Acting President of CityU, expressed his warmest gratitude to Mr Ho. “As a CityU alumus, Mr Ho’s support for CityU reaffirms the alumni’s sense of belonging and caring towards the University. His kindness and generosity will definitely inspire more alumni to support the future development of CityU,” Professor Ho said.

Mr Ho said, “It is my pleasure to study at CityU and to support CityU. I hope my donations will encourage other alumni to show their support by all means.” He shared a motto from I Jing (The Book of Changes) with students to encourage them “to strive to accomplish their mission”.

Professor (Chair) Roderick Wong Sue-cheun, Vice-President (Research) and Dean of Graduate Studies, expressed his deep thanks to Mr Ho for his generous support of the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies. “With this donation, the School of Graduate Studies will be able to provide a wider range of activities that are beneficial to our postgraduate students,” Professor Wong said.

Located on the fourth floor of the AcademicBuilding, the Peter Ho Lecture Theatre has a capacity of 140 seats within 150 square metres. Equipped with a comprehensive multi-media visual and audio system, it is one of the most popular and frequently used venues for tutorials, lectures, seminars and conferences.
