Monthly tea gathering promotes innovation and entrepreneurship

The first Tea Gathering of Innopreneurs’ Friday (TGIF) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 19 February aimed to inspire an atmosphere of innovation and entrepreneurship within the CityU community.

The kick-off for TGIF was organised by Innovation Commons (IC) and CityU Outreach (CUO). At the event, successful entrepreneur Dr Alan Lam Hiu-fung, Group CEO of Sengital Limited, and CityU student start-up founder Mr Isaac Wong Tsz-wai, Co-founder of BeVoid Limited, shared their reflections on developing new business ventures.

The officiating guests were Professor Arthur Ellis, Provost, Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs), and Professor Cheng Shuk Han, Director of the Office of Education Development and Gateway Education and representative of IC.

Among the guests were also Professor Linda Li Che-lan, Associate Provost (Strategic Planning) and representative of CUO, plus representatives from collaborating units of IC. They were Professor Christian Wagner, Acting University Librarian, Dr Guan Wenwei, Assistant Professor of the School of Law, and Mr Clement Lam Chun-yu, Associate Director of the Knowledge Transfer Office.

TGIF, initiated by IC, is a monthly gathering aiming to provide various CityU communities, including students, alumni and staff, an opportunity to share their start-up experiences, search for talent and build networks.

It also provides an excellent platform for promoting student start-ups to the various CityU communities and helping our students and alumni to meet together in order to develop a mutually supportive spirit from generation to generation.

One of the highlights of TGIF is the showcase for “start-up internship opportunities” which will link up CityU students, alumni, staff, entrepreneurs and representatives from Hong Kong Science Park; CoCoon, the leading entrepreneurship community in Hong Kong; and start-up companies.

CityU students interested in innovation and entrepreneurship can search for internship opportunities among the start-up companies at the event and the TGIF internship webpage.
