Naming ceremony of Ariel Wang Classroom

Classroom P4-701 in Academic 1 at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has been named “Ariel Wang Classroom” in appreciation of Ms Ariel Wang Yiqiao’s support and generous donation to CityU.

 

 

 
The naming ceremony on 12 March was officiated by Ms Wang and her husband, Mr Jason Jin Jianlin, Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, and Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations). The ceremony was also attended by Professor Arthur Ellis, Provost, Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Chief-of-Staff, Dr Raymond Chan Kwok-hong, Dean of Students, Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations), and family and friends of Ms Wang and Mr Jin.
 
In his welcoming remarks, President Kuo thanked Ms Wang and noted that she was a Past President of the Rotary Club of Shatin. In addition to the donations made by various members of the Club, Prof Kuo also looked forward to further collaboration between both parties in the near future.
 
In her address, Ms Wang said she understood from a very young age the importance of university education for upward mobility as both of her parents were university professors. She also shared that she was grateful to her friends and relatives for their assistance during different stages of her life, which is why she had been looking for ways to help others. Ms Wang highly appreciated CityU’s strategic development and with the support of her husband, she made a donation to the University to set up student scholarships. 
 
Professor Lee thanked Ms Wang for her donation support and concluded that Ms Wang was an excellent role model for students because of her positive attitude towards life and society. He also thanked Mr Winfred Chan Hon-pun, Member of the Board of Governors of CityU Foundation, for his help in introducing Ms Wang to the University.
 
A special lunch hosted by President Kuo was held after the ceremony as a way of thanking Ms Wang, Mr Jin and their friends and relatives for their participation in the day’s event.
 
To share her life wisdom with students, Ms Wang left her motto “Work diligently, act with integrity, and persevere in pursuit of dreams” in the Classroom.
 
With a seating capacity of 80, Ariel Wang Classroom is equipped with a state-of-the-art multimedia audio and visual system, making it a suitable venue for teaching, seminars and international conferences.
