Secretary for Innovation and Technology visits CityU
Mr Yang was warmly welcomed by members of CityU’s senior management team, including Professor Way Kuo, President; Professor Lu Jian, Vice-President (Research and Technology); Professor Yan Hong, Dean and Chair Professor of Computer Engineering, College of Science and Engineering; Professor Yan Houmin, Dean and Chair Professor of Management Sciences, College of Business; and a team of department heads and faculty members from the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Management Sciences, and the Research Grants and Contracts Office.
According to the 2015 QS World University Ranking, CityU is ranked 57th. In the fields of Engineering and Economics & Business, CityU is ranked 1st among Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, according to the 2016 Best Global Universities Ranking published by US News and World Report.
Professor Lu also introduced a selection of funded research projects related to the theme of Smart City, which is one of three interdisciplinary research themes included in CityU’s Strategic Plan 2015-2020.
After the meeting, Mr Yang learned more about the research facilities and projects on power electronics and its applications during a visit to the Centre for Smart Energy Conversion and Utilisation Research, the nuclear reactor model at the Centre for Advanced Nuclear Safety and Sustainable Development, the facilities for research on millimeter-wave and terahertz technologies in the State Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves.
He also visited the Giuseppe Castiglione: Lang Shining New Media Art Exhibition.
After his visit, Mr Yang said City’s research development was on the right track and he encouraged the University to continue its research work in sustainability.
