The spirit of research is essential to the advancing society, according to Professor Way Kuo, President of City University of Hong Kong (CityU).

Professor Kuo was speaking at speech days of St. Clare’s Girls’ School and Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School.

One of the factors behind CityU’s outstanding performance in world university rankings was a commitment to fostering innovation among students through the University’s unique Discovery-enriched Curriculum (DEC), he said.

“The spirit of innovation and discovery not only benefits your academic studies but your whole life. You are more likely to be able to make outstanding contributions to society if you are prepared to innovate and if you receive proper training and practice,” he said.

The “Giuseppe Castiglione – Lang Shining New Media Art Exhibition” currently held at CityU was cited as a successful outcome of exploration and innovation, in this case through the integration of art and technology. He encouraged audience to learn more from the people around them and to try to make new discoveries.

Invited by the Board of Directors of Po Leung Kuk, Professor Kuo also delivered a speech as a guest of honour at the joint school graduation ceremony of 25 primary schools under Po Leung Kuk held at AsiaWorld-Expo.
