Eminent scholar discusses interfaces, junctions and stratifications

Professor Pierre-Louis Lions

An eminent scholar Professor Pierre-Louis Lions, Professor at the prestigious ColIège de France in Paris and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study at City University of Hong Kong, delivered a distinguished lecture titled “Interfaces, junctions & stratifications" on 2 March.

In the lecture, Professor Lions discussed a systematic study of partial differential equations models involving junctions and networks, interfaces and stratification. His talk also concentrated on nonlinear equations in the context of viscosity solutions.

Professor Lions is one of the world’s most prominent experts in the theory of nonlinear partial differential equations and their applications. He is Professor of Applied Mathematics at I'Ecole Polytechnique in Palaiseau, France. He is also a member of the French Academy of Sciences, Accademia dei Lincei and Academia Europaea. He has received numerous awards, among them the prestigious Fields Medal in 1994 and the Grand Prize Ampère from the French Academy of Sciences.
