CityU #2 for Highly Cited Researchers list

Seven faculty members from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) have been selected for the list of Highly Cited Researchers announced by Clarivate Analytics for 2017.

The annual list recognises leading researchers in the sciences and social sciences around the world.
The list is published by Clarivate Analytics, formerly the Intellectual Property and Science business of Thomson Reuters.

“I am delighted that our scholars continue to gain in international status and that their work is having a substantial impact on society and research in general,” said Professor Way Kuo, CityU President.

According to Clarivate Analytics, the highly cited authors are selected "based on their respective output of top-cited papers in their fields”.

Covering an 11-year period, and representing a special subset of "hot" researchers whose recent work has won distinction in the form of citations, the list features scientists “who have won acclaim and approval within a key population: their peers”.

Based on objective citation statistics available on the Web of Science, which stands as the most authoritative compendium of influence and visibility in worldwide research, Clarivate Analytics has assembled an updated roster of more than 3,300 highly cited researchers.

These researchers have distinguished themselves by publishing a high number of papers that rank in the top 1% most-cited in their respective fields over a recent 11-year period.

Such consistent production of highly cited reports indicates that the work of these researchers has been repeatedly judged by their peers to be of notable significance and utility.

“With seven of its academic faculty being listed, CityU has the second largest number of researchers in Hong Kong on the 2017 list of Highly Cited Researchers recently released by Clarivate Analytics, ahead of HKUST and CUHK, which have 4 and 2 researchers on the list respectively,” said Professor Alex Jen Kwan-yue, Provost.

Professor Chen Guanrong (Mathematics, Engineering)
Professor Paul Chu Kim-ho (Materials Science)
Professor Gary Feng Gang (Engineering)
Professor Daniel Ho Wing-cheong (Engineering)
Professor Alex Jen Kwan-yue (Materials Science)
