Student ambassadors pledge to promote CityU

A team of 30 elite City University of Hong Kong (CityU) students pledged on 5 February to become ambassadors devoted to promoting the image of the University, bolstering community relations and fostering a sense of belonging among its members.

At the Inauguration Ceremony of the Student Ambassadors Programme, the student ambassadors also vowed to personally commit themselves to whole-person development.

Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Vice President (Student Affairs), officiated at the ceremony. “As the University’s elite students and student ambassadors, you are the face and voice of CityU when receiving visitors and the onus is on you to project a positive image of the University. As student ambassadors, you will have the opportunity to serve as master of ceremonies and in other roles at various events and this is a good opportunity for you to receive all-round training and nurture your talents,” Professor Lam said.

Witnessed by Mr Joseph Chan Kai-nin, Director of Student Development Services, the student ambassadors took an oath to serve the University.

Certificates of Appreciation were presented to senior student ambassadors who had made a valuable contribution last year. Among them was Manda Fung Yuk-ting, a Year One student from the Department of English. Manda praised the programme for providing her with the opportunity to meet new friends and assist her personal growth. “Apart from polishing our leadership and cooperative skills, we learnt much about society,” she said.

The Student Ambassadors Programme was launched in 1997 to promote whole-person development. Over the years it has helped promote among students a sense of belonging to CityU through their practical experience of serving the University.
