Book review seminar promotes humanities

Professor Zhang Longxi, Chair Professor of Comparative Literature and Translation, discussed the book Historical Treatments of "China": A Reconstruction by Professor Ge Zhaoguang, Director of the National Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Fudan University, at the first Book Review Seminar, which was organised by the Humanities Research Group in the Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics on June 16.

Nearly 100 local and overseas students and scholars attended. Book review seminars are major academic activities in the humanities, aiming to promote more research activities.

The guest list included Professor Ge; Professor Michael Duke, Emeritus Professor, and Professor Josephine Chiu, Department of Asian Studies, British Columbia University; Professor Liao Ping-hui, University of California, San Diego; Professor Dai Yan, National Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies, Fudan University; Professor Lee Ou-fan and Professor Zhang Jian, The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Professor Zhang Hongsheng, Hong Kong Baptist University; Professor Chan Kwok-kou, Hong Kong Institute of Education, and Professor Cheng Pei-kai, Director of Chinese Civilisation Centre, CityU.

A series of book review seminars will be held between September 2011 and August 2012.
