Four distinguished persons were conferred the title of Honorary Fellow of City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in recognition of their distinctive contributions to the development of, or service to, the University and the community.

The recipients are:

●  Dr John Chan Chun-tung, Chairman of Chaifa Holdings Ltd
●  Mr Wong Cho-bau, Chairman of East Pacific (Holdings) Ltd
●  Mr Wong Kam-po, Asian Games gold medalist
●  Mr Nelson Yip Siu-hong, Chief Executive of EP Power HK Co. Ltd, EP Venture Co. Ltd and Appetizup Co. Ltd

Dr Norman Leung Nai-pang, Pro-Chancellor, The Hon Leung Chun-ying, Council Chairman, and Professor Way Kuo, University President, officiated at the ceremony, which was held on 22 September.

In his welcoming address, Mr Leung thanked the honorary fellows on behalf of the University for their dedicated service and support to CityU’s development.

“This high level of support gives us confidence that we are heading in the right direction and are therefore supported by the community at large,” he said. “Without the support of people inside and outside the University, we would not be able to develop the best possible learning environment for the young people of Hong Kong, the mainland and beyond.”

Dr Chan addressed the assembly on behalf of the honorary fellows. “CityU has grown, prospered and matured in the 27 years since it was founded. It has made steady progression and the number of graduates is increasing, now in the hundreds of thousands. I believe these graduates will become the energy that will support our alma mater in the future” he said.
