Outstanding CLASS students and faculty honoured

The innovative ideas of students and excellence in teaching, research and knowledge transfer of faculty members from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) were honoured at the CLASS Awards Day on 4 May.

The CLASS Award Day acknowledges achievements in Discovery-enriched Curriculum (DEC) and advocates knowledge transfer in humanities and social sciences.

In his speech, Professor Way Kuo, University President, congratulated all the awardees for conducting successful projects that benefit society. He said the CLASS awards certainly recognised the achievement of faculty and students in CLASS. 

Professor Zang Xiaowei, Dean of CLASS, said in his opening remarks that student participation was a key for the successful implementation of the DEC.

“We guide students to conduct problem-focused research on people and societies in Asia and beyond as part of their acquisition of a strong sense of social responsibility and sustainability; and by doing so, enrich their academic life in CLASS with both a local and global perspective and experiences in knowledge generation and transfer,” he said.

Four categories of awards were presented at the event: the CLASS DEC Award, Knowledge Transfer Award, New Researcher Award, and Teaching Innovation Award.

Awards were presented by Professor Kuo, Professor Arthur Ellis, Provost, Professor Lu Jian, Vice-President (Research and Technology), Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs),  Professor Linda Li Che-lan, Associate Provost (Strategic Planning), Mr David Ai Chuan, Director of Knowledge Transfer, and Professor Cheng Shuk Han, Director of Office of Education Development and Gateway Education.

Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations), and Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Chief-of-Staff also attended the event.
