Alumni gather in Shenzhen to witness the inauguration of a new Alumni Chapter

In a bid to further strengthening bonds among alumni, the CityU Alumni Relations Office (ARO) organised “CityU Alumni Gathering @ Shenzhen cum Inauguration of CityU Shenzhen Alumni Chapter” at CityU Shenzhen Research Institute on 18 June. Event partners were CityU Convocation and the CityU Shenzhen Alumni Chapter. Around 130 CityU representatives, guests and alumni joined the joyful occasion.

CityU has been expanding its mainland alumni network. Following the establishment of the Beijing Alumni Association and the Shanghai Alumni Chapter, the inauguration of the Shenzhen Alumni Chapter marks another milestone in the development of CityU alumni network. Committee members of the Shenzhen Alumni Chapter pledged at the inauguration ceremony, committing themselves to uniting CityU alumni in support of the development of their alma mater.

In his address at the ceremony, Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, thanked dedicated alumni for their care for CityU, as well as sharing the good news that CityU had attained 7th place in the latest Asian University Ranking published by QS. He further delivered a speech on “Higher Education and Social Responsibility”.

At a sharing session, alumni leaders from Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong including Mr Andrew Fan Ka-fai, Mr Clovis Lau Koong-yep, Mr Edward Chan Chi-kong, Mr Wilson Chung Kwok-yi, Mr Anderson He Li-dong, and Mr Geng Chunya shared their experiences of serving their alma mater through the platform of alumni chapters. After the ceremony, alumni captured the opportunity to visit the laboratories with advanced technology and other facilities situated at the CityU (Shenzhen) Research Institute Building.

Other University representatives attending the ceremony included Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations), Professor Lu Jian, Vice-President (Research and Technology) and Dean of Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies, Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations), and Ms Alice Chan Yuen-ching, Acting Director (Alumni Relations Office), etc.

With the flourishing alumni network, ARO maintains close connection with around 6,000 active alumni in the mainland.  In addition to Shenzhen, ARO had organised alumni events in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xian, Guangzhou, etc.
