City University of Hong Kong (CityU) presented many of its research projects and won the Special Gold Award at the 2nd China University Scientific and Technological Achievements Fair (CUSTAF); while Professor Alex Jen Kwan-yue, Provost of CityU, delivered talks at two forums.
CityU showcased 10 projects by its different colleges, schools and departments, covering areas such as health monitoring, graphic element arrangement, sewage treatment, detection of public opinion trends towards international events, and smart computer-aided systems.
The project led by Professor Lu Jian, Vice-President (Research and Technology), titled “Structural Morphing Enabled Submerging and Surfacing System”, won the Special Gold Award, demonstrating CityU’s strengths in scientific research.
On behalf of the University, Professor Jen delivered talks in the High-end Forum for Collaboration of Development in Technology Education in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Bay Area and the International Summit for Technology Transfer by Higher Education Institutions.
He indicated that CityU’s world university ranking had been rising in recent years due to groundbreaking achievements by its excellent teaching and research faculties. To align with the development of the Bay Area, CityU will work with Huizhou on collaborative projects such as postgraduate academic programmes and the establishment of a veterinary diagnostic laboratory and a food safety laboratory.
“CityU will contribute to the development of China through its professional education and close partnership with universities and corporations on the mainland to enhance technology transfer and collaboration with the industry,” he said.
More than 300 local and overseas higher education institutions took part in CUSTAF from 24 to 27 May in Huizhou. Under the theme of “Promoting deep collaboration between industry and education institutions for a win-win development of innovation”, the Fair aims to enhance technology transfer of universities and boost collaboration between universities and corporations.
