The 35th Annual Award Ceremony of the World Cultural Council (WCC) will be hosted for the first time ever in Hong Kong at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) on 8 November 2018. At the ceremony, the “Albert Einstein World Award of Science” and the “José Vasconcelos World Award of Education” will be presented to Professor Jean-Pierre Changeux, Emeritus Professor of Neuroscience at the Institut Pasteur and Collège de France, and Professor Malik Mâaza of the University of South Africa.  

Officiating guests at the ceremony include:

  • Professor Way Kuo, President of CityU
  • Professor Sir Colin Blakemore, President of the WCC
  • Dr Choi Yuk-lin, Under Secretary for Education, HKSAR Government


Nine young researchers and scholars from Hong Kong will receive special recognition at the ceremony for their outstanding performance in the fields of science, education or arts.

The WCC, a non-profit international organisation based in Mexico, was founded in 1981, with an initial membership of 124 distinguished scientists and scholars, university presidents and executives from five continents, including several Nobel laureates.

The WCC bestows the annual “Albert Einstein World Award of Science”, and the biennial “José Vasconcelos World Award of Education” and “Leonardo da Vinci World Award of Arts” to individuals who have contributed significantly to related fields.
